Club: FC Steaua București (commonly known as Steaua Bucharest)

Season / Timeframe: Around 2016–17

• Official name history: The club commonly referred to as Steaua București is the historic Romanian club based in Bucharest. In the 2016–17 period the team was competing under the name FC FCSB after a legal dispute over the "Steaua" brand and crest with the Ministry of Defence / CSA Steaua. Many sources and fans still referred to the team as Steaua or Steaua Bucharest.
• Head coach / Manager: Laurențiu Reghecampf (often spelled Laurentiu Reghecampf). He returned to manage the club in the summer of 2017; during the 2016–17 season the club had other managers (including Mirel Rădoi as caretaker and then Laurențiu Reghecampf was appointed in June–July 2017 ahead of the 2017–18 season). Reghecampf also previously managed the club from 2012 to 2014.
• Stadium: Most matches were played at Arena Națională (Bucharest) and sometimes at Stadionul Steaua (previously known as Ghencea) depending on scheduling and competition.
• League: Liga I (Romanian first division). In the 2016–17 Liga I season the club (competing as FCSB) finished as runners-up to FC Viitorul Constanța in the championship play-off structure.
• Domestic cup competitions: The club participated in the Cupa României and the Cupa Ligii. In 2016–17, FCSB were eliminated from Cupa României prior to the final; they reached and won the Cupa Ligii in the 2015–16 campaign, with later editions held in adjacent seasons.
• European competitions: The club took part in UEFA competitions around that era depending on qualification (Champions League qualifiers or UEFA Europa League). In the 2016–17 season FCSB played in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round in the following season cycle or, depending on qualification, Europa League qualifiers—European campaigns varied by season.
• Notable players (around 2016–17):
  • Harlem Gnohere (forward)
  • Florin Tănase (young attacking midfielder/forward)
  • Lucian Filip (midfielder)
  • Nicolae Stanciu (transferred to Anderlecht in 2016; had been an important player)
  • Andrei Vlad / Florin Niță (goalkeepers at different times)
• Club colours and crest: Traditional colours are red and blue. The crest and official name were subject to legal dispute; after 2014–2017 the club that split from the CSA used a different crest and the name FCSB in official competitions while supporters continued to identify the team with the Steaua identity.

Summary: Around the 2016–17 season the Bucharest club widely known as Steaua (officially competing as FCSB) were competing at the top of Romania’s Liga I, finished second in 2016–17, and were involved in domestic cup and European qualification matches. Laurențiu Reghecampf was (re)appointed in mid-2017 to take charge for the next season, having been the club’s coach earlier in the decade as well.
