Boca Juniors — 2016/17 (approximate season summary)

• Club name: Club Atlético Boca Juniors (commonly “Boca Juniors” or “Boca”)
• Country: Argentina
• Home stadium: Estadio Alberto J. Armando (“La Bombonera”), Buenos Aires
• Head coach / Manager: Guillermo Barros Schelotto (appointed mid-2016; in charge through the 2016/17 period)
• Chairman / President (around that time): Daniel Angelici

Context and competitions (2016–2017):

• Domestic league: The Argentine league format was transitioning in this period. Schelotto took charge after coaching appointment in mid-2016; Boca competed in domestic tournaments under his management.
• Copa Argentina: Boca participated in the national cup competitions occurring in that cycle.
• International competitions: As a top Argentine club, Boca were regular competitors in CONMEBOL tournaments; participation status depends on qualification from the 2015/16 campaign (they did not win the 2016 Copa Libertadores, so 2017 Copa Libertadores involvement reflected qualification rules at the time).

Notable staff and playing style under Guillermo Barros Schelotto:

• Schelotto, a former Boca player, emphasized attacking football with width, wing play and quick transitions — a pragmatic blend of possession and directness typical of his coaching profile.
• He worked with a coaching staff including assistants and fitness coaches brought in after his appointment; his presence restored continuity with the club’s identity given his Boca playing history.

Key players around 2016/17 (examples):

• Carlos Tevez — veteran forward and influential leader for Boca after his return from abroad.
• Nicolás Lodeiro / Cristian Pavón / Fernando Gago / Wilmar Barrios — players who featured for Boca in the general mid-2010s era (squad composition changed with transfers).
• Other squad members and exact appearances/roles varied through transfers, loans and injuries during the 2016/17 cycle.

Notable achievements and results (brief):

• Schelotto’s tenure saw Boca remain one of Argentina’s top teams, competing for domestic honors and maintaining continental ambitions. Exact trophies and placings for the 2016/17 calendar depend on which competition window is referenced (Argentine season formats and calendar-year cups can cause overlap).
