Context and notes about the 2016/17 period

• Jorge Almirón was appointed as Lanús manager in June 2015 and remained in charge through the 2016/17 timeframe, earning recognition for attractive, possession-based play and strong youth integration.
• In the 2016 Argentine Primera División (league format that year), Lanús finished among the competitive teams but did not win the title; the club focused on domestic league performance and continental qualifications.
• Almirón's tenure at Lanús is widely credited with maintaining the club's competitiveness following their 2016 Copa del Bicentenario/Copa Argentina era and building a squad that later achieved strong continental results.
• Key players around that period included Lautaro Acosta, José Sand (striker, though his role varied), Iván Marcone (midfielder), Agustín Marchesín (goalkeeper had left earlier to Mexico but the keeper position was important), and several promising youth-team graduates—Lanús is noted for producing talent.

Achievements under Almirón (summary up to 2017)

• Consolidation of Lanús as a strong Argentine Primera side with attractive style and regular top-table finishes.
