Head coach around 2016/17: Mike Büskens

• Mike Büskens (German) was appointed head coach of Rapid Wien in November 2016. He succeeded Damir Canadi, taking charge during the 2016/17 Austrian Bundesliga season.
• Büskens had prior managerial and coaching experience in Germany, including roles at Greuther Fürth and as caretaker/head coach at Schalke 04 (and earlier involvement with Rapid’s coaching staff as an assistant would be noted in some sources).

2016/17 season context and performance

• Competition: Austrian Bundesliga (split into regular phase and championship/relegation rounds).
• Rapid Wien struggled during the 2016/17 league campaign; managerial change in November 2016 brought Büskens in to stabilize results and push for a top-six finish to reach the championship round.
• Rapid also competed in domestic cup competitions (Austrian Cup) and had ambitions for European qualification, though their league difficulties limited that for the season.

Typical squad composition (players around that period)

• Key players in and around 2016/17 included veterans and domestic league regulars — examples from that era: Stefan Schwab (midfielder), Louis Schaub (creative midfielder), Roman Kienast and Robert Berić (strikers in nearby seasons), Thanos Petsos (midfielder), and goalkeeper players such as Lukas Königshofer and Alexander Kofler across nearby seasons. Squad lists shifted during the season due to transfers.
