Club: Hull City A.F.C.

Season (around): 2016–17

• Country: England
• Stadium: KCOM Stadium (renamed the MKM Stadium later)
• Manager / Head Coach: Mike Phelan
• Chairman/Owner (2016–17 period): During that season the club was owned by the Allam family; Assem Allam was principal figure. Ownership changed later in 2017–18.
• League (2016–17): Football League Championship (Hull had been relegated from the Premier League at the end of 2016–17 season; note that Mike Phelan first managed the club in caretaker and later permanent roles around this time)
• Season summary (2016–17 context):
  • Hull City competed in the EFL Championship after relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2016–17 season (the relegation occurred in 2016–17 Premier League; Phelan took on head-coach duties later in the 2016–17/2017 period).
  • Mike Phelan served as manager at multiple points: he was appointed as first-team coach under various regimes and later became head coach/manager following Nigel Adkins' departure in early 2017. Phelan was confirmed as head coach in May 2016 for the 2016–17 season but the club had a turbulent managerial period around relegation and the seasons either side.
  • Key players around that era included Harry Maguire (sold to Leicester City in 2017), Abel Hernández (joined 2014), Moses Odubajo, Markus Henriksen, and Sam Clucas (who joined in 2017). The squad saw significant turnover across 2016–18.
• Domestic cups: Participated in the FA Cup and EFL Cup in the usual cup competitions for English clubs; no major cup wins in that immediate period.

Notable context: The mid-2010s were a turbulent time for Hull City — promotion and relegation between the Premier League and the Championship, managerial changes (including Mike Phelan in various roles), and key player sales such as Harry Maguire in 2017.
