• Peñarol is one of Uruguay’s two most successful and popular clubs, based in Montevideo. They play at the Estadio Campeón del Siglo (opened in 2016) and wear black and yellow.
• The 2016 and 2017 domestic campaigns fall under the Apertura/Clausura format used in Uruguay’s Primera División; Peñarol regularly contended for the title in those years.

Head coach: Fernando Curutchet

• Fernando Curutchet is a Uruguayan coach who served in Peñarol’s coaching staff during this period. He worked within the club’s technical setup; depending on exact months he held roles such as assistant coach or interim manager around 2016–2017.

Notable events around 2016–2017:

• Estadio Campeón del Siglo: Peñarol opened their new stadium in March 2016, giving the club a modern home ground after years of using other venues.
• Domestic competition: Peñarol remained a top contender in the Uruguayan Primera División during 2016 and 2017, competing with Nacional for championships and participating in league playoffs when applicable.

Typical squad/roles (example positions common for Peñarol in that era):

• Goalkeepers: First-choice keeper and backups drawn from domestic talent or returning youth academy players.
• Defenders: A mix of central defenders and full-backs, often emphasizing physicality and experience.
• Midfield: Both defensive and creative midfielders, with emphasis on ball-winning and transitional play.
• Forwards: Strikers and wingers combining pace and finishing; Peñarol traditionally invests in reliable goal-scorers.

Competitions: Uruguayan Primera División (Apertura and Clausura), potentially Copa Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana qualification depending on prior season standings.
