Wolverhampton Wanderers (WOLVES) — season around 2016/17, coached by Walter Zenga

Coach

• Walter Zenga — Italian former goalkeeper and manager. Zenga was appointed Wolves head coach on 5 October 2016, replacing Paul Lambert. His tenure at Wolves was short: he managed the club through October and November 2016.

Context of the club in 2016/17

• Wolverhampton Wanderers had been promoted from League One to the Championship at the end of the 2013/14 season and were competing in the English Football League Championship in 2016/17.
• At the start of the 2016/17 season Wolves struggled under Paul Lambert; the club was pressing for improved results when Lambert left and Zenga was brought in to try to arrest the slide.
• Walter Zenga's spell saw no league wins; he was dismissed on 26 November 2016 after winning just one competitive match (an EFL Cup tie) and recording a run of poor Championship results. He was succeeded by Paul Lambert’s successor as caretaker and then by Walter’s replacement, who eventually was Kenny Jackett (appointed in January 2017) — ultimately Wolves finished mid-table in the Championship that season.
