Leandro Damião (full name: Leandro Damião da Silva dos Santos; born March 22, 1989, in Jardim Alegre, Paraná, Brazil) is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a striker.

Club career (highlights, including Flamengo)

  • Early career: Began at Atlético Ibirama and then moved to Internacional’s youth setup, breaking into Internacional’s first team and gaining attention for goal scoring.
  • Internacional (2010–2013): Emerged as a prolific goalscorer, helping the club domestically and in continental competitions.
  • São Paulo (loan, 2012–2013): Spent time on loan where he continued to feature in Brazil’s top flight.
  • Santos (2013–2014): Brief spell with Santos FC.
  • Internacional return and Cruzeiro: Returned to Internacional before later joining Cruzeiro.
  • Flamengo (loan, 2019): Joined Clube de Regatas do Flamengo on loan in 2019. At Flamengo he was part of a strong squad featuring players such as Gabriel Barbosa (Gabigol) and others; Damião contributed as a forward option during his loan spell, making appearances in Série A and domestic cup competitions. Flamengo won the 2019 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the 2019 Copa Libertadores squad that season, though Damião’s playing time was limited compared with the club’s main attacking stars.
  • Later career: After Flamengo he had spells abroad (including in Japan with Kawasaki Frontale on loan earlier in his career) and returned to various Brazilian clubs; his career included moves typical for experienced forwards seeking playing time.

International career

  • Represented Brazil at senior level, earning caps and scoring for the national team. He was part of Brazil’s squad at the 2012 London Olympics, where Brazil won the silver medal.

Playing style

  • Target striker with strong aerial ability, good finishing inside the box, and typical physical presence for hold-up play. Known for poaching goals in the penalty area.

  • Brazilian Serie A: with Flamengo (2019) — squad member
  • Copa Libertadores: with Flamengo (2019) — squad member
  • Olympic Silver Medal: Brazil (2012)
  • Domestic titles with Internacional during his successful spell there
